The Lokomo Sword is a unique one-handed sword. It is initially crafted without its scabbard.

Characteristics[]

The Lokomo Sword is equal in strength to an Ebony Sword and weighs less than an Iron Sword without its scabbard. It becomes slightly heavier once its scabbard is attached. The sword has a standard swing speed and reach for a sword.

The Sword deals slightly increased critical damage (x1.53 base damage) and has the standard critical multiplier of x1.0. It may be tempered with an Orichalcum Ingot.

Effects[]

The Lokomo Sword is enchanted and has an infinite charge. Its enchantment becomes more powerful once the scabbard is attached.

Without its scabbard, the Lokomo Sword has a 26% chance to Paralyze non-immune targets for 6 seconds. This increases to a 51% chance to Paralyze for 11 seconds with its attached scabbard. Additionally, the scabbarded variant deals 11 extra damage to Hylian undead. This includes Phantoms, Darknuts, Redeads, Stal-type creatures, Forgotten Soldiers, and Hylian and Gerudo Vampires (among others).

The scabbarded Lokomo Sword reacts with the White Ring and Ivory Ring, releasing green sword beams while the wielder is at full health. The beams explode, staggering creatures and Paralyzing non-immune targets for 10 seconds.

Crafting[]

The Lokomo Sword has an extensive crafting process that is unlike most other items. Each sword component must be crafted and combined with one another at various crafting stations.

If the Lokomo Sword is crafted, the Lokomo Longsword cannot be obtained. The Lokomo Cog can be converted to and from its Longsword form at an Alteration Table or smelter. However, once it is used to create the Lokomo Crossguard, the choice cannot be reverted, and only the Lokomo Sword may be crafted.

Lore[]

The Lokomo Sword was used during the Battle of a Thousand Heroes, and the hero wielding it single-handedly defeated hundreds of undead. Eventually, one fight shattered the sword's blade, and the heavily-damaged sword was lost after the Last Great War of Hyrule concluded. Unlike several other relics of Hyrule, the Lokomo Sword was not protected by residual magic.

The Dwemer who constructed the ruin connected to the Reach Secret Grotto uncovered the sword's crossguard buried deep underground. Its resemblance to a cog caused the Dwemer to search for pieces of the machine they assumed it came from, but no other pieces were found.

Background and Inspiration[]

The Lokomo Sword was added in version 6.0 of Relics of Hyrule, and its original model was donated by fcp078. In version 6.5.21, a "thin" variant was created that deviated from the wide, squat shape of the sword. It ultimately become the new appearance for the Lokomo Sword, and the original "wide" variant was replaced by the Lokomo Longsword. The original recipes used Orichalcum and Steel materials in place of Aquanine and Goron Steel.

The lengthy crafting process for the Lokomo Sword was based on the process used by modern blacksmiths to craft weapons. Some steps are omitted or streamlined, but still stands in stark contrast to Skyrim's usual crafting system. The Lokomo Sword was given this process because of the technological theme of Spirit Tracks, and to provide a unique means of obtaining the sword.

Given the ability to craft bars, blanks, and grips without the need of a Lokomo relic, JKalenad is considering applying these items to other weapons in the future. JKalenad is also considering retexturing the Orichalcum Cog to be more weathered and dark.
